Large crowds turned out in some cities in the two provinces of eastern Ukraine to answer the question of whether they want to remain with the Ukranian central Government, or depart and become part of Russia.
The New York Times reports that nearly everyone who cast a ballot appeared to be voting to secede from the Kiev central government. Opponents, as predicted, appeared to be staying away from the polling places.

Fresno State students, faculty, alumni, and the public gathered at the Save Mart Center on Saturday to celebrate the investiture of Fresno State President Dr. Joseph Castro.
The conferring of the presidential medal that symbolizes the president’s  responsibility and authority to the University was presented to Dr. Castro. The investiture also means that he now carries the authority to, among other responsibilities, certify student’s graduation diplomas for the upcoming commencement ceremonies at Fresno State.
